No one likes low water pressure. We step into the shower and we feel like we are being hit with a squirt gun. We try to water our garden, but can’t get enough pressure to spray. So what causes low water pressure?

There are a lot of factors that could be causing low water pressure, but here are a few. First of all, if you have a well, it could be either your well pump or your pressure tank. Not every well type has a pressure tank, but if you have one of these, it may be time for a new one. The well pump itself may be broken as well, or at the very least not working very well.

Often times, a well pump will go bad because the well pressure tank went bad. If the pressure tank bladder inside the metal casing is compromised, it will force the pump to cycle on more than it should and cause premature malfunction of the pump.

If you have public water, be sure to have a plumber check that your main supply line is the proper size, and if there is a pressure regulator near the meter that it isn’t malfunctioning. Also, if you have galvanized piping, that is a big issue for water pressure and you should consider replacing those pipes.
