Since many households are cooking for themselves more often than ever before, there is a simple danger that we’d like to recommend avoiding. That danger is the effect that comes from pouring liquid grease into your plumbing system.

This practice may seem harmless at first, since grease or fat can be poured into a kitchen sink, for example, like any old liquid. However, as it goes through your home’s plumbing system, it will eventually meet with colder temperatures, causing the grease to harden and clog whatever pipe it’s in, repelling water and collecting debris. Even if the clogging doesn’t seem apparent at first, it will eventually cause problems for you, or even your neighbors, depending on the septic system where you live.

For these reasons, it’s important to avoid pouring grease down any drain, but instead waiting for it to cool, and then disposing of it along with your other solid trash.
