Do you have childhood memories of that crazy hot metal slide in your playground that seemed to absorb the entire energy of the sun, and then blasted it like a lava flow into your poor little skin? Of course, you’re not alone. But, this isn’t the only danger that can come from a playground. If you’re a homeowner with playground equipment in your yard, it may be a good idea to do some occasional inspecting and maintenance on it.
For example, through changing temperatures, wood and metal tend to warp, causing pinch points or loosened bolts that can be very dangerous. Swings should be at least 24 inches apart, and around 30 inches down from the frame. Make sure the ground around the playground is clear of debris or sharp objects that could hurt a little one, and consider installing some soft ground cover to protect them from getting hurt.
